In a market marked by the concentration of major national and international operators, Grupo IFA’s strategic model seeks to leverage commercial and operational synergies among top regional operators in their respective areas of influence, in order to consolidate their operations, improve margins and strengthen their ability to compete. These operators, deeply rooted in their territories, offer a distinctive commercial proposition that adapts more nimbly to their customers’ needs and consumption trends. As a result, Grupo IFA holds a prominent position in the market, ranking first in retail floor space in 22 provinces, and stands as a benchmark in regions such as Andalusia, the Canary Islands, Catalonia, Galicia and Madrid.
Retail floor space and number of outlets grow
During 2025, retail floor space also grew both at global level, reaching 7.6 million m2 (up 6.4% on the previous year), and in Spain, reaching 4.0 million m2, an increase of 3.8%. The Group also recorded a significant socioeconomic impact, contributing €11,476.4 million to the economy, equivalent to 0.7% of national GDP, according to consultancy firm KPMG.
Innovation driving growth
During 2025, Grupo IFA strengthened its collaboration with the industry through commercial intelligence and digitalisation initiatives such as IFA Delfos, a data-sharing project that drives collaboration with manufacturers through the shared use of sales data, improving the management of commercial information, the efficiency of commercial actions, collaboration with manufacturers and the sustainable growth of categories, with a focus on manufacturer brands.
The Group has also relaunched IFA START, an open innovation platform designed to accelerate the transformation of food retail through collaboration with startups, emerging technologies and international innovation ecosystems, connecting real challenges facing the sector with scalable technological solutions that deliver measurable impact on customer experience, operations, logistics, planning and new business models.
As Diego Maus, Chief Executive Officer of Grupo IFA, has pointed out, “at IFA, we believe our way of competing is to offer customers a shelf that prioritises their freedom of choice. That’s why we champion assortment breadth as one of the hallmarks of our commercial proposition, with a focus on manufacturer brands, as well as a quality private label that meets all of our customers’ needs.” He adds, “we are currently the leading commercial platform for brands, with a market share of 20.3%, according to NielsenIQ, which continues to grow month after month, widening the gap with other operators. This year’s results validate this model, capable of competing with larger companies by combining the distinctiveness of our associates’ commercial offerings – all of them regional operators – with centralised management of commercial and operational projects that leverage our scale and market access capacity”.
